Shape from Multiple Cues: Integrating Local Brightness Information
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper, a novel approach to shape from multiple cues is further refined and applied to the task of combining contours with local brightness information. The approach, furtheron called the sculptor's principle, does not attempt to construct an 'optimum' solution but rather finds an enclosing volume that must contain the true solution. Shape from contours algorithms only provide accurate results for points on the convex hull of object. The shape ambiguity at concave parts, however, has to be removed by integrating complementary shape cues. This is addressed by a new idea of how to exploit the local brightness information, the luminance, for reconstruction purposes. The shape from luminance algorithm is illustrated on the enclosing volume of a dummy.

Multiple Depth and Normal Maps for Shape from Multiple Views and Visual Cues
This paper introduces the sculptor's principle a new framework for shape representation and surface reconstruction from multiple shape cues. On one hand, a new shape from local brightness algorithm based on a standard voxel volume representation is presented. The sculptor's principle, on the other hand, provides the basis for a new and efficient representation of object surfaces by multiple dep...
متن کاملPerson Tracking by Integrating Optical Flow and Uniform Brightness Regions
This paper describes a method to track a person by integrating two cues: optical ow and uniform brightness regions, where optical ow cannot be obtained. This method works even if tracking with either optical ow or uniform brightness regions may fail. The proposed method is implemented on a realtime image processor with multiple DSPs and successfully tracked a target person using a real image se...
متن کاملIntegrating Multiple Visual Cues for Robust Real-Time 3D Face Tracking
3D face tracking is an important component for many computer vision applications. Most state-of-the-art tracking algorithms can be characterized as being either intensityor feature-based. The intensity-based tracker relies on the brightness constraint while the feature-based tracker utilizes 2D local feature correspondences. In this paper, we propose a hybrid tracker for robust 3D face tracking...

Rotationally symmetric operations in the image domain may give rise to shape distortions. This article describes a way of reducing this e ect for a general class of methods for deriving 3-D shape cues from 2-D image data, which are based on the estimation of locally linearized distortion of brightness patterns. By extending the linear scale-space concept into an a ne scale-space representation ...
متن کاملShape-adapted smoothing in estimation of 3-D shape cues from affine deformations of local 2-D brightness structure
This article describes a method for reducing the shape distortions due to scale-space smoothing that arise in the computation of 3-D shape cues using operators (derivatives) defined from scale-space representation. More precisely, we are concerned with a general class of methods for deriving 3-D shape cues from a 2-D image data based on the estimation of locally linearized deformations of brigh...
